it's amazing but you can get 100 usd dual socket motherboard for $150 Xeon 6148v2. it will give you 40 core system cappable via Memo to accelerate 4k timeline in h256. You don't need more. For more you can rent compute by tflops seconds.

If they IPO I would want to invest if they started behaving properly and charged a monthly sub for OS and had DRM to prevent third party repair and lock OS to vendor and require geo restrictions so they are not so portable. An app store so that we can monetize all that developer software that is being given away for free. Also locking up supply chain and making sure we have enough lawyers to control the narrative.

You miss a point of RPi's. It is not a micro-desktop PC. It can be used as it, but this things is for embedded developers. Your N100 don't have any GPIO's, it don't has UART. When it comes to actually low level coding RPi's devs gives you any information you want, Intel only can say you to go %%%% yourself.

Could you compare this with a Navepoint 10 inch rack? They're one of the only other companies offering a rack in this form factor in the US, and they have a 12U four post cabinet for a similar price!

The best UPS solution I've found is, if the rack has a bottom, you could put one of those consumer UPSes that's the form factor of a chunky power strip in there. Would take up 4U of space to allow for plugs (though if you maybe used some flat right angle plugs from a power strip or adapter Id bet you could do 3U).

Finally someone found it out for me! Finally I know that *old tools are better!* Had no chance for a comparison myself as my seriously battered 1979 Weller soldering station still stubbornly refuses to die. Soldering microscope is an MBS-10, no clue how old that is.

How would I put nvme into my camera instead of micro SD?

I tried the Pimoroni PCIe board and after putting everything to work, nothing. I spent 3 days trying to figure out, different SSDs, different OSs, reset everything to default... I believe now is either the cable or the board went bad. I would be skeptical with 3rd parties, and fragile flat cables from now on. These companies should understand IT work cannot be based on easy-to-break accessories. The solutions also need to be practical, this is not Apple world, design should never be over function. Think before buying anything

Its good they never rubberized, so many of those coatings broke down into a sticky mess.

Not really a villain, but I feel they kinda lost the plot. They were originally a cheap way to get people into coding, configuring, & interfacing with other equipment. Now it seems like they are focused on power I know they kind of have 'forks' in that you can still get previous Pi's if you need cheaper options, but I think in the future they should have the base that has the upgraded CPU & everything else low end to keep that $35 or less cost, then have a crazy version that seeks to be a desktop PC the size of a deck of cards. But, when it comes to things like retro gaming, you are better served by getting a high end 6-7 year old micro PC with maxed RAM & an SSD. Enough power to emulate most machines up to the late aughts, & pretty much anything Nintendo has put out.

I only wish Iso-TIp were available in Brazil! Also, if your dad doesn't follow him already, HIGHLY recommend Terry from D-LAb for HAM Radio and tube electronics :)

Actually it seems to be increasingly difficult to get simple electronics wires if not wanting to import. You can get the 1.5mm wire but AWG 22 or 21 seems to be difficult.

I doubt this can even compete with the JBC station..

0:56 no way. I know a guy who picked up a few of these things at an auction of course the nickel cadmium batteries in the insides were kaput's and crowded beyond belief. Every time I see him I think about my wall razor and that I needed replaced the battery in it and how they look so much alike. Towing away with the idea of lithium ion replacement but don't know how to do that with a 1.2 V cell.

A lot of that test equipment could be replaced by a USB device. I have a Digilent Analog Discovery 2. It covers all those bases. Not to nearly the same precision, but given that it's a small device, it takes up practically no space. I do actually have a really nice oscilloscope, but it is one of the thicker ones, and takes up a ton of desk space. Overall, I'll take small and compact any day.

I worked at an audio post house with 4 machine rooms on 3 floors. The engineering director had 1/4” patch points in the patch bays to plug a Weller soldering iron into. His way of solving portability. Like your dad described there used to be a lot more soldering in trouble shooting. Cheers 👍
